Hey mate, I’ve been interested in Arduino for a while but haven’t managed to fine the time to start learning it. I have and idea for the project I would like to do some day. I want to make a simple? gps unit for my boat. Initially it would display my coordinates and speed. Eventually I would like to input some logic that shows average speed, eta, compass bearing to a given location, my bearing relative to the average..

Is Ardunio going to be a suitable platform to do something like this?

I am working on a project called automatic tour guide system.
Consider an example of a musuem. The system includes a display device that will be given to the visitor, which will receive the signals from the transmitter attached to the statue, only when you are in the vicinity of the statue. On receiving of that signal, the display? device will display the information about that particular statue.
I am not into electronics, so I need ur help.
What would you recommend on using for this system?
