Weekend Projects – PIR Sensor Arduino Alarm

Complete instructions for this episode of Weekend Projects can be found at

This project is great for those beginning to build with Arduino, and requires no soldering. Using very few components, and some jumper wire, we’ll build a simple motion-sensing alarm. This project combines technologies we’ve used in previous Weekend Projects, including a PIR sensor and piezo buzzer. It’s great for practical jokes and doubles as an early warning system for the zombie invasion!

  1. plus, zombie blood? …
plus, zombie blood? is green, so you wmight need an infragreen sensor, instead of the infrared

  2. that means the room …
that means the room will get colder… The alarm should? still work..

  3. Actually that …
Actually that doesn’t matter but the zombie will still be at least room temperature if it’s in a room. And because of this, it will emit heat or Infra-red light. This is a tight of light has a longer wavelength than visible light. All object emit a type of light with a certain wavelength depending on it’s temperature. Around Room Temp. (298 K, 25 C, 77? F), the wavelength of the light is about 9.7 microns which is in the Infrared range. If you want to learn more, read about Black-Body Radiation.

  4. Ideally they won’t …
Ideally they won’t have the exact same temperatures as the room. 😛
Should detect? cold things moving too, right?

  5. I imagine that it …
I imagine that it depends on how close the writers want zombies to reality; body mechanics need circulation to move muscles. That aside, assuming the zombies in question have rotting flesh or something like that would? also release heat.

  6. Zombies don’t …
Zombies don’t really have blood? circulation…do they? They shouldn’t have much body heat D:

  7. I have never met a …
I have never met a warm blooded zombie, are? you sure this is a good way to detect them?

  8. But zombies are …
But zombies are undead so they don’t generate any heat! ? This project is going to get somebody eaten.

  9. pretty cool project …
pretty cool project now i luckly got to do something this weekend
    ?

  10. Interesting, but …
Interesting, but you can really? make an “analog” one using a 555 Timer chip configured in bi-stable mode.
