Meet the Teams: DARPA Robotics Challenge Track A Robots

Say hello to the robots that will be competing in the December 2013 DARPA Robotics Challenge Trials at the Homestead-Miami Speedway! Which is your favorite?

The robots shown here are in various states of readiness. The teams have until December to complete their bots for the initial round of physical competition in the DARPA Robotics Challenge. The goal of the competition is to advance the technology required to create robots to assist humans in disaster response.

The six Track A robots will compete against seven teams using the Atlas robot, created by Boston Dynamics for DARPA, and against an unknown number of teams from Track D.

    THEY ALSO NEED PETMAN IN THE COMPETITION AND INVITE NEW CANDIDATES FOR EXAMPLE INVITE THE TOYOTA ROBOT AND THE HONDA ASIMO, IT WILL BE AWESOME TO SEE THEM ALL IN ACTION AND DOING AWESOME THINGS LIKE DRIVING, CLIMBING WHILE IN SEVERY CONDITIONS? WATER, FIRE ETC. AND SEE HOW THEY CAN BE IMPROVE ALSO ALL WILL NEED TO BE SATELLITE AND THEY WILL NEED TO COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER IT WILL BE COOL TO THEM SPEAKING WITH EACH OTHER, LOL.

    TBH they say that …
    TBH they say that about everything, standard PR. They also said scramjets were for fast passenger air? travel (while knowing industry periodicals scoffed, not fooled) – pretending it wasnt for uninterceptible missiles. They publicly talk about them almost solely in context of missiles NOW though.
    But yeah, it could also be used for good. Most powerful tools can do whatever, its up to the user to decide to use a truck to transport materials long distance – or to drive through a building lobby.

    The teams? are split into Track A, B, C, and D. Track A teams have to build their own robot, and program it, while the Track B teams will get an Atlas robot from Boston Dynamics and then program it.
