Artificial Swarm Intelligence in Nano Robotic Systems. Nano Quadrotors at the GRASP Lab, University of Pennsylvania. Vehicles developed by KMel Robotics.  </p>
<p>The quadricopter passes easily through windows in a vertical position regardless of the angle of the opening. It does so at a high speed and stabilizes itself the right way up or upside down immediately after.</p>
<p>There could be many applications for this type of drone: military intelligence, for the police, or even for natural disasters such as the collapse of buildings.</p>
<p>Swarm robotics is a new approach to the coordination of multirobot systems which consist of large numbers of mostly simple physical robots. It is supposed that a desired collective behavior emerges from the interactions between the robots and interactions of robots with the environment. This approach emerged on the field of artificial swarm intelligence, as well as the biological studies of insects, ants and other fields in nature, where swarm behaviour occurs.</p>
<p>Special thanks to Professor Daniel Lee for his support. Daniel Mellinger, Nathan Michael and Vijay Kumar from Grasp Lab at the University of Pennsylvania have designed this ultra easy to use UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle).</p>

<p>Lykkeskolen came by to show how it&#8217;s easy to get a lot of points using simple programs and add-ons for the basic robot.</p>
<p>Missions solved in this video:<br />
- Farm Fresh Produce (Truck): 9 points.<br />
- Pizza and Ice Cream (Modified truck program): 7 points for the pizza.<br />
- Groceries: 2 points. pr. grocery. We forgot the ice cream in this video.<br />
- Disinfect: 12 points for the pink dispenser<br />
- Hand Wash/Viral: 13 points.</p>
<p>The team also made programs and add-ons to collect the trailer, pick up the rats, travel to the eastern wall and adjust the termometer. </p>
<p>The missions this year are both easy to get started with and present real challenges for the advanced teams.</p>

Robot is equipped with 5 digital distance sensors. Two GP2Y0D805Z0F (5 cm) sensors were placed on the left and right side of the robot chassis so that beyond some threshold robot is able to detect changes in distance from the walls. One GP2Y0D810Z0F (10 cm) was placed on the front of the robot chassis. Simulations show how even a simple robot equipped with digital distance sensors is able to maintain a certain distance from the wall so that there is no collision with them. Turning maneuver is also performed only on the basis of signals from distance sensors (no signals from the encoders). The signals from the sensors should be filtered to prevent the accidental signals (noise). Some difficulty is that the corridor at the end is tapered and robot hits its tail wheel ball on the wall which causes some slippage. However, this is not a problem in this case because the robot instead of the encoders uses only the signals from the distance sensors.</p>
