Direct Brain Control of a Humanoid Robot

University of Washington Researchers have developed a non-invasive brain-computer interface (BCI) that allows a user to command a humanoid robot to pick up objects and bring it to specific locations. A humanoid robot can use sophisticated robotics and computer vision techniques to explore the environment, discover possible objects and interactions, and interact with the objects selected by a user. In this way, a simple BCI-based selection interface can enable a user to perform significantly …

  1. that’s certainly …
that’s certainly one way of looking at it, but in the same way, “you” aren’t controlling every aspect of what you are doing consciously.

the brain hat isn’t that great, the guy is just yelling GREEN BLOCK in his head and the ai performs the action

  3. how much longer …
how much longer till we can construct a device so our brain can live in a vat?

  4. the intelligent …
the intelligent scientis put a electrical-stimulus sensitive facility like this OVER the head of some volounteer, the sticks in the monkey’s brain to probe something that could be proved also with this facility.

  5. Ok just so everyone …
Ok just so everyone knows what’s happening here: The robot is not being controlled by the guy. It’s being controlled by an AI. All the guy is doing is trying to influence which block the AI choses to go for. The technology is not advanced enough for the guy to actually be controlling the robot. First they hook him up and have the computer recognize when his brain sees something he’s looking for.. then they have him focus on a block and the robot picks whatever color block he’s focusing on..

  6. Oh wow ! that would …
Oh wow ! that would be an awesome Video Game controller!
could you imagine playing a game with that thing? no more sore thumbs and aching arms and the precision would be astonishing.

  7. ok um…. this …
ok um…. this video is awesome but where can you get one of these helmets, and how much are they?

  8. How come there …
How come there aren’t any robots being controlled by men’s penises?? I mean, that is the most developed organ most men practice day in and day out with?? The brain??… oh yeah, the thing that says, “Penis, do not stare at that girl, she’ll think less of me!”… lol Brain… who needs it??!

can u make him look like a legoman? and so eh moves kind of like a halo spartan? (cuzz they think of their movement to do it, they dont actually just do it)

  10. Yeah it’s not being …
Yeah it’s not being released for consumer use, and if it was, it’d cost quite a bit.

  11. Dude guys I work …
Dude guys I work with Emotiv as a beta tester. The emotiv is going to be released in December of this year. And inferiuz it actualy runs just off of thought patterns in you’re brain.

  12. yeh it is, i dont …
yeh it is, i dont know about it being released yet but it senses your facial and electrical in your brain and you can do stuff, search it.

  13. Oh yea and there is …
Oh yea and there is a headset called the Emotiv that is going to be released this year that is basicly a universal controller the training for it is a video game but after that u can do alot more!

  14. from what i …
from what i understand they do have a wireless model and its human size!

  15. think about it, …
think about it, once this technology goes wireless, man will have “invented” telekenesis.

  16. just think if they …
just think if they came out with some super suit that could be controlled with your mind. All you’d have to do is sit inside and think, then the robot gose on a rampage. LOL! that’d be awsome!

  17. It looks like …
It looks like sony’s dance bots just with alot of the stuff stripped away.
