UCLA BattleBots Spinup Test

This is the spinup test for UBRuined, our 60lb (lightweight) shell spinner bot.

Note that the weapons are not attached and the protrusions on the shell are just mounting nubs. Even decelerating, the shell managed to hit and warp a steel chair leg about 20 degrees away from straight.

Forgive the terrible camera angle, I was holding it in one hand and the remote in the other.

  1. lol. I can’t …
lol. I can’t believe you tested the spin up inside with such close quarters! Cool bot though. You going to compete in BattleBots or Robo Games this year?

  2. Did you put longer …
Did you put longer weapons? Those squares wont do anything. put some titanium. It makes lots of sparks.

  3. never mind about …
never mind about the wires. ucla ppl are smart. need not to worry about safety.

  4. Don’t have any …
Don’t have any handy at the moment. Sorry… It wasn’t very successful in its fights, the shell imploded upon first impact.

  5. oh…. k. will you …
oh…. k. will you post combat videos of this one? (as well as the next one)

  6. this is the 07 …
this is the 07 spinner :p sorry I meant ’08 in the last comment. The ’08 will be horizontal.

  7. will you add videos …
will you add videos of your 07 spinner? is it vertical or horizantal?

  8. UBRuined. The 2007 …
UBRuined. The 2007 version will be almost a complete rebuild; we’re moving to a bar spinner and welded aluminum box frame instead of the shell design. Why? Well, a spinner really needs to be made of titanium, and that’s out of my budget.

  9. what is the bot’s …
what is the bot’s name? (it sounded like a UFO when it was decelerating)

  10. Only the TV show …
Only the TV show was canceled. We competed at ComBots 07 – other videos from that event are on YouTube.
