A SCARA pick and place robot is integrated with a camera connected to DVT Intellect machine vision software. The task involved getting the robot to approach and pick up the correct wooden blocks that were randomly placed under the camera’s field of vision and construct a fairly simple wall connected with a bridge piece.
Although the task demonstrated by the robot is fairly simple by human standards, the time taken to program the robot, and the robot’s execution time in carrying out the task was painstakingly slow. We are still a long way off from creating robot’s that can successfully think and do things efficiently for themselves.
