What’s a good robot kit? lower price, it’s for a present I know nothing about these things! Help appreciated!?

It’s my boyfriends birthday soon and I thought I’d get him some sort of build your own robot set. We’ve seen a kids one in a toy shop and he thought it was pretty cool. You could do stuff on your computer to it too?

He’s in his early 20’s and whilst he’s never built a robot he’s pretty tech-y and works at apple (taking bits apart and stuff) so not a really really simple robot but not really hard either.

I’ve been looking but don’t know what I’m looking for! Also they seem to be really expensive! Is there anything for £100 or under? (UK based) Or would it be fun to buy the little bits and a robot building book?

If anyone can get through my ramblings and help I’d be eternally grateful 🙂

Hey, well, I am not sure of the simplicity factor, although they say this can be built in around 30 minutes, so fairly simple.
It is a LEGO mind-storm robot that has a microprocessor built-in to its head and responds to voice and certain tones or sounds.
