Best robot kits for 16 year olds?

I’m 16 and know a lot about electronics, especially computers. For a long, I’ve been interested in robotics, but didn’t know where to start. Two days ago I started doing search and found that I should start with a kit. I found some kits that looked pretty good but they were over my budget. I have $40 but the actual kit can be no more than $30, so I have enough money for tax and shipping.

I like the OWI Arm wedge, but I don’t know if it will teach me that much. I’ve seen others too, but I have the dams doubt with those.

I want something that will actually teach me how to build a robot and how to make it move. I don’t want to put pieces together and have it work without me actually doing anything major.

Also, I read a lot of reviews of people saying they got it for a 7-10 year old. One of these reviews were about the OWI Arm Wedge. I want a kit that’s challenging for someone who’s almost a young adult, not a little child.

So what are some good robot kits for a beginner, but that isn’t childish and doesn’t just have you just screw things together? My brother said he would give me some money, cause he wants to watch me and learn some robotics. So the price range is $0-$50, including any soldering equipment I may need to buy.

I have soldered before in school in 6th grade, when we made an LED flashlight, so I’m comfortable with soldering if I need too. My brother did the same thing too, two years ago, and i have family members who could help us, if needed. So i don’t care if I need to solder or not.

Thank you.

For your price range and requirements I can’t find much if any at all but I know of some sites that can help you if you are a little more flexible. If you get a job or something then you can make $210 more dollars and that’s about how much it will take for you to get some requirements you have while others not so much.

The first link has a couple spaces so you can see it all but what it is is a robot you can make pretty much out of house hold materials except for the electronics. It fits within your price range but might be too young for you and might require some more labor than you wish

The second is $250 plus shipping and tax so it’s out of your price range and requires more work than you probably would like but there is the third link that has buiding instructions that you could use and programs for the robot so it won’t be as bad. I have 2 of these and I have created robots galore. Almost all of them actually and I love it!

So as you can see for your price range you have stuff too young for you but you have stuff your level that’s out of your price range and would require too much labor so I don’t know what you could do except be more flexible and maybe get some more money.

I am 15 so I know how you feel about building stuff. Have fun and be safe!

I have enjoyed helping you in this delema.
