If Drobo wants to keep up, they need to support it soon across their product line.

anyway the point is, that your example is bad, windows wants disk space for I/O not because if it gets 95%+ full it will stop working and crash. i have owned 2 drobo’s they work fine as basic storage but they still have a ways to go. i build storage for a living, i have jabbed at the guys from drobo when ever i see them at a conf,? they have fun toys but it does not beat a real raid, raid 5 is crap, take some time and look into freeNAS, ZFS and raid 10 if you want real data backup.

take a look into the ZFS file system, it will do the same thing, the drobo is a software raid on top of a hardware raid, sorta like the way ZFS works over? iSCSi. the reason windows does not like being low on disk space is for the reason most people use “virtual memory” witch uses the disk as low speed ram, witch is stupid after xp sp2 it should have been removed. we have servers at work that run raid and there are times where the disk fills up, server goes the same speed.
