Help me get a robot kit?

Hello, I was recently looking at robot kits. They are way to expensive for me to afford.

My question is: I see a lot of robot clubs and things like that, are there any that give away robot kits as prizes like they do for scholarships. I was looking at the Robotis Bioloid and it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. Unfortunately I could never afford it. If you know a contest for a robot, please give me a link to it.

I don’t want links where you win a robot for winning a robotics competition. I don’t have a robot to compete.

Thanks for your help!

I was facing the same problem a few months ago.I had seen a lot of robot kits and they all were very expensive so i decicde to make my own. its fairly simple all you really need is a microcontroller(i prefer the atmega8) a couple of motors a motor driver ic(l293 or l298) a perf board.a body for your robot. and a caster wheel. Also it is recommended that you have some knowledge about soldering some knowledge about programming try searching the internet for some instructables and stuff.all this stuff would set u back by 30-40$ us.

the easier way if you are a noob would be to get some development platform such as arduino. there are a lot of resources on how to build an arduino yourself too.You can easily make a robot based on the arduino platform.there are even some robotics oriented versions of arduino.

both of these are the diy way and are not easy and are time consuming and require a lot of dedication but hey they sure are a hell lotta fun and the trouble is worth it.

also join robotics communities on the internet.try googling for robotics communities in your area and join them.
