This is my very first robot made from off the shelf parts. Instead of using one of those expensive robot kits I just attached an Arduino to a set of Tamiya treads with the optional dual motor drive driven by a cheap h-bridge chip.
It’s programmed in C and compiled via the open source Arduino software. Total cost to build was under $99 for a fully programmable and easily expanded robotics platform.
It has no sensor inputs installed yet, but it’s simple to add bump switches and all sorts of other neat goodies. This could be easily adapted for simple tasks like line-following with some cheap off the shelf components.
