Six Million Dollar Man “Promo Introduction 2” toy commercial

1974 introduction commercial for the Six Million Dollar Man action figure. This was probably another Toy Fair promotional commercial when the figure was first introduced. I can’t see Kenner televising a 2 minute commercial due to the expensive advertising costs.

    Kenner’s Maskatron …
Kenner’s Maskatron action figure’s face sculpt was NOT modeled after John Saxon – in order to avoid paying royalties to Universal City Studios. The name “Maskatron” was trademarked as propietry to Kenner. Any alleged resemblance to the character John Saxon portrayed is totally erroneous.

    I had that Six …
I had that Six Million Dollar Man toy when I was about 8 years old. In Toys R Us my dad said “you can either save up for it, or I’ll buy it now for you, but you have to pay all your pocket money for the next 8 weeks”. I naturally got it on layaway (even at that age I figured that my pocket money wasn’t keeping pace with inflation in the late 70’s so buy now, pay later, and let my debt diminish in real terms over loan duration the loan). Interest free loan on a Steve Austin toy! Dad was AWESOME!

Man, as long as I can remember John Saxon has always worn a rug. Even in the movie enter the dragon he had one that lifted on one of the fight scenes with bolo yueng. LOL!

    Who do think is …
Who do think is stronger? Maskatron or Fembots? I’d have to say Fembots…. Steve goes hand to hand with Masky… but you could never really fight a Fembot hand to hand, at least not for long. What say you?

Hehehehehe….love it mazstar4! Like you, I use to get scared less watching Steve Austin and Jaime Somers fight the fembots and the bionic bigfoot…but I LOVED these shows. I use to pray for bionic arms and legs!!! I praying that Universal will release both series on DVD soon to add to my other 70’s superhero collection–Wonder Woman, Isis and Shazam!

This is the first we ever saw of Maskatron, and the action figure soon followed. I’ve had mine since Christmas 1976, and it still works. Thank you for posting, JimEmmons17.

    Why build the wire …
Why build the wire and such when you could just transfer their countenance through the high tech computer casting into selected look alike donor’s brain?

    Well, actually YES …
Well, actually YES and NO. This is part of a longer clip shown at Toy Fair in NYC by Kenner Toys in 1976 as a promo for their SMDM line – which included the (then) new “Maskatron” action figure. To avoid having to pay royalties to Universal City Studios, Kenner made said “Maskatron” with a “generic” face sculpting. R + D at Kenner created the “Maskatron” name, and trademarked it as propriety.

The best show ever. So glad the new bionic women failed cause they tried to change the essence, the slow motion effects and the pure fantasy. this show had real abiity to scare the out of you. I remember after this episode for weeks i was scared to sleep in the same bed as my brother thinking he could be a robot.

    Whoa, this is …
Whoa, this is creepy and violent for a 70’s kid! I wonder if “The Magician” was the first to introduce the ‘fembot’ concept? (74) aka TM’s SSL. I can’t find when the bionic ones were introduced, anyone knows? Glimpse of TM’s SSL at my featured video, towards the end.

    That is what Kenner …
That is what Kenner based the Maskatron figure after. There was a terrorist/mad scientist named Dolenz who made these robots that resemble people that he has his highly skilled goons kidnap ie; Oscar. In this promo it was Colonel Sloan, Steve’s buddy.
