Micro Battle Bot (v1.0) |
Ok, here’s a cool little battle bot my buddy Ryan Archer showed me how to make. All you have to do is have an elevon mixing enabled radio, 2, 7-9 gram micro servos (high speeds are preferred, like Turnigy TG9s), a micro receiver (AR6100, Berg 4L, ect.), a 2 cell lipo battery (250 mah is preferred), and a BEC (like a Castle UBEC). It’s fun too. You can add all sorts of weapons to it, like a spinning blade, or a thrower arm, or anything that doesn’t generate heat. micro components don’t like heat (especially the lipos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Back-story

Every year, my family come together on Thanksgiving Day. On my dad’s side of the family, we have a friendly, competitive battlebots competition, and whoever wins takes home the trophy. (Of course, we have another battlebots fight on Christmas, and whoever wins that gets to keep the trophy for the rest of the year.)
My family’s robots are Joe the Anteater driven by my brother, and the Armadillo driven by me. the Anteater uses a linear actuator (hydraulics) to lift up it’s opponents, and the Armadillo uses compressed CO2 to release a quick burst and flip the opponents. This is the Anteater’s second year with that weapon, and the Armadillo’s first year. Since we are in the same family, and I seem to be prone to flipping, my brother helps flip me back over.
The Thanksgiving battle is the first round, but the Christmas competition is where things get harder for the robots. In the Christmas competition, nobody is allowed to touch/fix their robots during the game, unlike here in the Thanksgiving battle.
